First practice evaluation

This learning path walks you through your first successful practice evaluation. It applies to Practice users.

Before you begin​

  • You have a Practice signup link or access code from your instructor, coach, or program
  • You can record a short speech in the browser, or you already have a video file (MP4, WebM, or MOV)
  • You can sign in at speechgradebook.com/practice

Step 1 — Sign in to Practice​

  1. Open your program’s Practice link, or go to speechgradebook.com/practice.
  2. Create an account or sign in with the email your instructor or coach expects.
  3. If prompted, enter your program access code.

You land on Evaluate, where you rehearse speeches on your own schedule.

tip

If you already have instructor access on the same account, you can switch apps from the account menu. Practice and the instructor app are separate surfaces with different jobs.

Step 2 — Choose a rubric​

  1. Optionally enter a Title for this practice run.
  2. If Rubric collection appears, choose the collection your program uses.
  3. Select an Evaluation Rubric.

The rubric description under the menu explains what the evaluation emphasizes.

For impromptu rubrics, use Draw topic to get a prompt before you record.

Step 3 — Record or upload your speech​

  1. Select Record with camera to record in the browser, or Upload video to choose a file.
  2. Allow camera and microphone access if you record live.
  3. Confirm the selected file appears under the upload area.

Step 4 — Evaluate and save​

  1. Select Evaluate Speech.
  2. Wait while Practice transcribes and analyzes your recording. This usually takes about a minute.
  3. Review scores and feedback on the results screen.
  4. Select Save so the speech appears under Speeches.

Your first saved evaluation is ready. Open Speeches anytime to review it again.

On Evaluate, Practice may recommend a short baseline survey. Completing it helps your Progress Learning Outcomes Profile compare self-report with performance. See Learning Outcomes Profile.
