Student consent overview

This article explains the consent process for students whose instructor uses SpeechGradebook.

Why you received an email

Your instructor uses SpeechGradebook to evaluate speeches. Evaluation materials for your course are stored in SpeechGradebook’s hosted systems for instructional use by your instructor and authorized unit administrators.

Separately, your instructor may ask you (if you are 18 or older) to complete a short consent form so ValidBound may also use deidentified or aggregated evaluation content to operate and improve SpeechGradebook (including private model improvement). Consent is voluntary and does not affect your grade.

You do not need a SpeechGradebook account or password to complete the consent form.

note

This consent form is separate from SpeechGradebook Practice. Practice is a signed-in rehearsal app. Completing consent does not create a Practice account. If your program uses Practice, see For Practice users.

What to do

  1. Open the consent link in the email from your instructor or SpeechGradebook (check your spam folder if you do not see it).
  2. Read the consent information on the form.
  3. Submit your response — agree or decline as instructed. Only students 18 or older may select “I consent.”

Your instructor sees your consent status in SettingsGeneralConsent Management.

If you decline or are under 18

Instructional storage and instructor/admin use for your course still apply. ValidBound will not include your materials in LLM training or R&D exports.
